Profile
Haworth Station is the second to last stop on the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway, around three and a half miles from Keighley.
About twenty minutes after leaving Keighley, the modern world drops away and you arrive somewhere very different: a place of steam trains, cobbled roads, moorland scenery and a strong literary history.
The station serves Haworth village, best known as the home of the Brontë Sisters Charlotte, Emily and Anne. From Haworth station it’s a steady climb through Haworth Park and then up the cobbles of Main Street to the Brontë Parsonage Museum, where the sisters lived and wrote some of the most famous novels in English literature.
Haworth has been an important part of the railway since the line opened in 1867. When the heritage railway was reopened after closure in the 1960s, Haworth became its operational heart.
Today it remains the base for locomotive maintenance, repair and restoration, with both steam and diesel engines looked after here by skilled staff and volunteers.
The station is still a working place rather than a static museum. Behind the scenes, teams keep the locomotives running and traditional engineering skills alive. Guided tours of the locomotive works are available on selected days, offering a close-up look at the engines (just be prepared for oil, grease and coal!).
Tip: The best way to experience the full railway is with a Day Rover ticket, which lets you hop on and off at all the stations along the line.
If you’re short on time or don’t want to spend the money, you can still enjoy a bit of trainspotting from the footbridge overlooking Haworth Station. Depending on the day, you’ll see steam services and the occasional diesel passing through.
From the station forecourt you can also start the Railway Children Walk, with routes heading through the Worth Valley towards Oakworth and Oxenhope.
Even if you’re not walking far, the views from around the station give a real sense of the landscape that makes this line so special.
Limited parking is available near the station, along with toilets, level access, a booking office and a station shop selling railway-themed gifts and souvenirs.
