The event long known as the Haworth 1940s Weekend is now organised by the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway and takes place along the full heritage line, with Haworth as one of several stations involved.
Across three days, the railway recreates the look and feel of 1940s Britain, combining steam trains, period music, re-enactments and living history displays.
About the 1940s Weekend
During the weekend, the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway is turned into a large-scale 1940s themed experience.
Heritage steam trains run along the five-mile line between Keighley and Oxenhope, linking six characterful stations: Keighley, Ingrow, Damems, Oakworth, Haworth and Oxenhope.
Each station contributes something different, from music and performances to wartime displays, so visitors are encouraged to travel up and down the line to see everything.
The dates for the next 1940s Weekend are:
- Friday 15 May
- Saturday 16 May
- Sunday 17 May
Whether you are interested in social history, vintage fashion or simply want a distinctive day out by steam train, the event is designed to appeal to a wide audience, including families.
What’s On
Music & Entertainment
Live 1940s performances take place along the line, with vintage singers appearing at different stations. Haworth features a traditional fairground organ, and dancers often bring extra atmosphere to platforms and open areas.
Living History
Expect wartime displays across several stations, including the Haworth Home Guard, patrolling policemen on the lookout for Spivs, ARP encampments and a recreated wartime corner shop. Code-breaking activities and other hands-on exhibits help bring the era to life.
Food & Refreshments
Each station will offer something unique.
Ingrow serves tea and cake, Oakworth has the NAAFI (Tea Hut) for drinks and ice cream, and Oxenhope provides hot and cold sandwiches. Keighley offers both a kiosk and the Old Parcel Office café-bar, while the on-train Buffet Car sells drinks, real ale and snacks.
Re-enactors & Displays
Special guests and re-enactment groups appear throughout the weekend, including scheduled speeches from Air Chief Marshal Sir Arthur “Bomber” Harris and visits from US Army characters. Alongside this, visitors can explore restored engines, vintage coaches, the Carriage Works Museum, the Engine Shed and gift shops at Haworth and Oxenhope.
- The event runs along the full Keighley & Worth Valley Railway, not only in Haworth.
- Each station offers different activities, linked by heritage steam trains.
